  1. International Obesity Task Force and Association for the Study of Obesity - http://www.iotf.org/

    This site covers all aspects of obesity and provides links to organisations such as WHO (World Health Organisation) and other associations. The site has a huge selection of links to look at, you need lots of time to explore this site but some areas may not be relevant as they link to medical publications which you may not have access to (professionals pay a subscription fee).

  2. National Obesity Forum - www.nationalobesityforum.org.uk

    This site was established in 2000 by GP’s who were concerned about the impact of obesity on the health service. The forum aims to raise awareness of the growing impact of obesity and supports the All Party Parliamentary Group on obesity which raises debate in the government. Mainly for use by healthcare professionals but has some useful links.

  3. The British Nutrition Foundation - www.nutrition.org.uk

    The site covers all aspects of nutrition and health and so takes a while to navigate around. However, it does have some specific areas relating to obesity and links to other organisations. The site also covers media news and publications but takes a while to sift through. You will find useful information about food, what it contains and where to find certain vitamins/minerals etc.

  4. British Dietetic Association - www.bdaweightwise.com

    This site offers information about healthy eating and how to lose weight. The site also has a page about the health risks of obesity. There is also the option of ‘talking’ to a dietician via the website.

  5. The Obesity Awareness and Solutions Trust - www.toast-uk.org.uk

    A national charity which is dedicated to encouraging a better understanding of obesity. TOAST works with industry, local government and patient groups etc to stimulate action for the prevention and treatment of obesity. Limited site but it does have discussion groups and gives an overview of the latest developments in the news.

    This site is specific to those people who have had or, are considering, surgery for obesity, giving information about the types of surgery that are available and surgeons that operate within the UK. The site also gives a list and links to the various support groups that are available although these are spread across the country. On this site you will also find eating and exercise plans for after surgery.
